For a positioning strategy to be successful, it must be understood, agreed upon, and executed consistently by all stakeholders across the organization. This is why it is so important to involve leaders from each functional area in the positioning process.
When leaders from marketing, sales, customer success, and product development are all involved in creating the positioning, they are much more likely to:
- Feel a sense of ownership: They will see the positioning as "theirs" and will be more invested in its success.
- Understand the rationale: They will understand the "why" behind the positioning and will be better able to communicate it to their teams.
- Execute consistently: They will ensure that their teams are all telling the same story and working towards the same goals.
Without this buy-in, you will end up with a positioning strategy that looks good on paper but is never actually implemented. Different departments will continue to do their own thing, and the result will be a confusing and inconsistent message to the market.
