Entrepreneur vs Wantrepreneur
Entrepreneur vs Wantrepreneur
The distinction between an entrepreneur and a "wantrepreneur" is not about having ideas, but about taking action.
The Wantrepreneur
A wantrepreneur is someone who is in love with the idea of being an entrepreneur, but never actually takes the leap. They are characterized by:
- Endless talk, no action: They are always talking about their latest "million-dollar idea," but they never seem to make any progress on it.
- Obsession with learning, not doing: They spend all their time reading books, watching TED talks, and attending conferences, but they never apply what they've learned.
- Fear of failure: They are so afraid of failing that they never even start. They would rather have an unlaunched idea that is "perfect" in their mind than a real business that is imperfect.
- Excuses: They always have an excuse for why they haven't launched yet. "The timing isn't right," "I need to do more research," "I'm waiting for the perfect co-founder."
The Entrepreneur
An entrepreneur, on the other hand, is defined by action. They are the ones who take an idea and turn it into a reality. They are characterized by:
- A bias for action: They understand that You dont learn until you launch, so they are always pushing to get their product to market as quickly as possible.
- Focus on execution: They know that ideas are cheap and that execution is what matters.
- Resilience: They are not afraid to fail, and they see setbacks as learning opportunities.
- Customer-centricity: They are obsessed with solving a real problem for their customers and are always seeking feedback.
The transition from wantrepreneur to entrepreneur happens when you stop talking and start doing. It's about embracing the uncertainty, taking the risk, and launching your business.
