FLOP
FLOP
FLOP is an acronym that stands for the three main reasons why most projects fail:
- Failure due to Launch: The sales, marketing, or distribution efforts fail to reach the target market effectively. People who might want the product don't know it exists, don't understand it, or can't get it.
- Failure due to Operations: The product's design, functionality, or reliability fails to meet user expectations. It might be a great idea, but the execution is poor.
- Failure due to Premise: People are simply not interested in the idea. They understand it, they can get it, but they just don't care.
While all three can lead to failure, the most common reason for failure is the premise. Most products fail because they are The Wrong It to begin with. No amount of good execution can save a product that nobody wants.
This is why it's so important to validate the premise of an idea before investing in building and launching it. This is the core idea behind Pretotyping.
