Think Globally, Test Locally
Think Globally, Test Locally
"Think Globally, Test Locally" is a tactic for making your Pretotyping experiments more efficient and effective. It means that while you may have a global vision for your product, you should start by testing it on a small, local, and easily accessible subset of your target market.
The benefits of testing locally are:
- Speed: It's much faster to get feedback from a local market than from a global one.
- Cost: It's much cheaper to run experiments in your own backyard than to launch a global marketing campaign.
- Focus: It allows you to focus your resources on a small, manageable group of users.
"Local" doesn't just mean geographically local. It can also mean conceptually local. For example, if you're building a mobile app, you might start by testing it on one platform (e.g., iOS) before expanding to others.
The "Distance to Data" (DTD) is a metric you can use to measure how well you're following this tactic. The goal is to minimize your DTD, so you can get the data you need as quickly and cheaply as possible.
