The Three Ps (Planning, Procedures, and Policies)
The Three Ps (Planning, Procedures, and Policies)
The "Three Ps" are the foundational elements of a scalable and well-run business. They provide the structure and systems necessary for growth and consistency.
- Planning: The process of thinking through the activities required to achieve a desired goal. This involves setting objectives, identifying strategies, and outlining tasks.
- Procedures: A series of steps to be followed in a specific order to accomplish a task. Procedures are the "how-to" instructions for the business.
- Policies: A set of rules and guidelines that define the company's standards and direct decision-making. Policies provide the framework within which procedures operate.
The Importance of the Three Ps
- Scalability: They are essential for growth. Without them, a company cannot scale effectively.
- Consistency: They ensure that tasks are performed consistently and to a high standard.
- Efficiency: They eliminate guesswork and provide a clear roadmap for employees to follow.
- Training: They form the basis of a company's training manual (see Document Everything).
Workshop-Style Meetings are the primary tool for developing and refining the Three Ps. The goal is to Work on the Business, Not Just in the Business by continuously improving these foundational elements.
