Defining Your Core Focus

Defining Your Core Focus

Your core focus is what you are "genetically encoded" to do as an organization. It's the intersection of your passions and talents, and it defines the area where you can be the best in the world.

A clear core focus acts as a filter, helping you to stay on track and avoid distractions. It prevents you from chasing "shiny stuff"—opportunities that may seem attractive but are outside of your area of expertise.

Your core focus is made up of two parts:

  1. Your Purpose, Cause, or Passion: This is the "why" behind what you do. It's a simple, heartfelt statement that is bigger than any single goal and is not about money.
  2. Your Niche: This is the "what" you do. It's a simple description of your primary business or area of expertise.

By defining your core focus, you can align your people, processes, and systems to consistently deliver on your unique promise. This clarity allows you to dominate your niche and avoid the trap of trying to be all things to all people. This is the second question in the The Vision-Traction Organizer (V-TO).
