The 10 Commandments of Solving Issues
The 10 Commandments of Solving Issues
The 10 Commandments of Solving Issues are a set of guiding principles for effective issue resolution. They help to create a healthy and productive environment for making decisions.
- Thou Shalt Not Rule by Consensus: Not every decision will be unanimous. The leader must be willing to make the final call.
- Thou Shalt Not Be a Weenie: Have the courage to make tough decisions, even when they are uncomfortable.
- Thou Shalt Be Decisive: More is lost by indecision than by wrong decisions. Make a decision and move on.
- Thou Shalt Not Rely on Secondhand Information: Get all of the relevant people in the room to solve the issue.
- Thou Shalt Fight for the Greater Good: Put your ego and personal interests aside and focus on what's best for the organization.
- Thou Shalt Not Try to Solve Them All: Prioritize your issues and tackle the most important ones first.
- Thou Shalt Live with It, End It, or Change It: You have three choices for every issue. Choose one and move on.
- Thou Shalt Choose Short-Term Pain and Suffering: It's better to deal with a painful issue now than to let it linger and cause more pain later.
- Thou Shalt Enter the Danger: The issue you fear the most is the one you most need to resolve.
- Thou Shalt Take a Shot: Don't be afraid to propose a solution. It might be the one that works.
These commandments, when followed, can help any team become more effective at solving their issues and gaining traction. They are a key part of the The Issues Solving Track (IDS).
