Real vs. fake progress
Mostly work on the revenue or active users. You should always define the weekly goals for this.
There are 2 types of work:
- Talking to users
- Building product
Fake progress is for example
- Winning awards
- Conferences
- Twitter activity
- Pitch competitions
Task prioritization
You can try tracking the daily work and you'll be surprised how much time you spend on low-value work. You should keep track of ideas which will improve the KPI.
Grading impact
There are 3 buckets of impact: low, medium and high (helps to achieve the goal for week).
Grading complexity
Along with the impact we need to keep track of the complexity: easy (< day), medium (1-2 days), hard.
You should focus on
- High/Easy
- High/Medium
And avoid
- Low/Hard
- Low/Medium
Don't do many tasks at one time.
How well am I prioritizing?
Growing graph is better then stable.
Weekly updates
It is useful to track:
- Primary Key Performance Indicator (actual vs goal)
- Biggest obstacle to growth
- Tasks accomplished + impact
- Big learnings
Check the blockers weekly, check how good the predictions and how fast learning going.
Maker's/manager's schedule
If you don't have enough time maybe you have a wrong schedule: meetings + coding, many interruptions.
Be decisive
The art of being fast = decisiveness
